Butterfly bank showpiece Magpie nest Almere
The Netherlands has another wheelchair-friendly park bench! On Tuesday, July 17, 2012, amid the leafy greenery of the Het Eksternest care farm in Almere Haven, the park bench sponsored by Stad en Natuur and Rotary Almere was officially unveiled by Member of Parliament Heleen Dupuis in front of a large group of interested parties and Rotarians. This wheelchair-friendly Butterfly Bank, co-sponsored by DroomHout, was created through intensive collaboration between Jeroen Muller (1965-2010) and DroomHout and, viewed from above, has the shape of a butterfly. The park bench, constructed from robust solid wood, has the powerful advantage that wheelchair users have a good place to 'sit down' and that without wheelchair users a 'round' setting still exists. It is the ideal all-round wheelchair-friendly park bench, so many more may follow in the Netherlands. With special thanks to James Purvis of Rotary Almere, Hans Warrink of Stad en Natuur and all relatives of Jeroen Muller. See the article in Almere Today here.
